Who Can Pour Concrete in Santee? C-8, B and A Licenses

In Santee, three licenses can matter on one driveway job. A C-8 or a Class B general contractor can handle the slab. The part in the street needs a Class A.

Checklist

  • A B can run a concrete job
  • The B needs C-8, a C-8 sub, or two other trades
  • Right of way work still needs a Class A
  • Walls and driveways can share one job

Start With Where the Concrete Goes

A Santee driveway has two parts. The slab on your lot is one. The apron at the street is the other. The city says any right of way work needs an Encroachment Permit, and the contractor in that space must hold a Class A license. Everything on your side of the line follows the usual CSLB rules.

What a B General Contractor May Do

The CSLB licenses Class B general building contractors for jobs with at least two unrelated trades. Its Fast Facts sheet says B is the most common license in California. A B may take a concrete job in three cases. The contract has two other unrelated trades besides framing or carpentry. The B holds C-8. Or the B hires a licensed C-8 for the concrete.

A Santee Example

Picture a retaining wall at the back of a lot next to a new patio slab, with drainage and lighting. That is more than one trade. A B can run it, and a C-8 can pour the slab and the wall. One contract, one person to call.

Santee has wall triggers of its own. A permit is needed at three feet from the top of the footing, or within five feet of the property line. A wall that carries extra weight gets a Building Division check, and a driveway within three feet counts. A B who coordinates the job can track those steps. Ask who does.

Why a B Alone Does Not Cover the Apron

Santee asks for a Class A in the right of way. The CSLB says an A may do concrete work that is part of fixed works like roads. A B license is a different class. If your job reaches the curb, ask who holds the A and who is on the permit. A Class B contractor can still run the lot side of the job.

B-2 Does Not Cover Concrete

The B-2 Residential Remodeling class covers existing wood frame homes with at least three unrelated trades in one contract and no structural changes to load bearing parts. Concrete is not on its list of trades.

Questions to Ask

Ask for the license number and look it up at the CSLB lookup. It shows every class the license holds. Ask for the name and license of anyone who will pour or work in the street. Get a written contract that names who does each part. A job over $1,000 in labor and materials needs a license.
